Artist's Statement

Michele Pietrzak

Creating art of all kinds makes me feel happy and connected to my authentic self.  When I am producing work I get the feeling of living my perfect life; tuned in, working, and creating.  I have spent the last several years attending school, studying art, and I am enjoying the freedom that this next phase of my life brings.

I love to play with all sorts of media, but when painting I use 140 or 300 pound cold press watercolor paper and artist quality watercolors.  Generally, I draw my images first in black ink and then go back and brush in the color. Using ink first allows me to move more freely, having less concern with perfection and erasing.  Themes that emerge in my art are flowers, nature, and robots.

My flower paintings are an extension of work that I have previously done for my own enjoyment, a flow-type of drawing that has progressed to larger paintings.  Intuitive painting, in which the goal is to embrace your own path and follow it without being concerned with product, helped give me the courage to follow my heart and let what is inside come to the forefront.  It is also where the robots first appeared.  The robots help remind me not to take myself so seriously and for that I will be eternally grateful. Thank you robots, I love you!
